MarqPDF reads each invoice (a digital PDF, a scan or a phone photo), finds the supplier's and buyer's GSTINs, the invoice number and date, the place of supply and the tax lines, and checks them against the GST rules. GSTINs checked character by character
A GSTIN's 15th character is a check character worked out from the first 14. MarqPDF works it out again, so a mistyped or invented GSTIN fails, and confirms the state code and the PAN inside it.
CGST and SGST, or IGST
A supply within a state is charged CGST plus SGST; a supply between states, IGST. MarqPDF compares the supplier's state with the place of supply and flags an invoice charging the wrong kind of tax, a common reason input tax credit gets reversed.
Rates after 22 September 2025
From 22 September 2025 the 12% rate and most of the 28% rate went, and a 40% rate came in. An invoice dated after the change at 12%, or at 28% for anything other than tobacco, is flagged, and so is 40% before it.
Totals, words and HSN codes
Taxable value plus tax must equal the total, the amount in words must say the same, and HSN/SAC codes must have 4, 6 or 8 digits. An e-invoice IRN is picked up too, and invoice numbers longer than GST's 16 characters fail.
Frequently asked questions
Can it check scanned invoices?
Yes. Scans and phone photos are read with OCR first. If an amount fails on a scan, compare it with the paper copy: the OCR may have misread a digit.
Does it check the GSTIN on the GST portal?
No. It checks that the GSTIN is valid, not that it's active today; use Search Taxpayer on the GST portal for that.
